Guidance for Submission
To help us make the best use of your submission, please keep in mind the following:
(start your submission by scrolling down)
1) Focus on Facts
Ask questions that can be answered, or share stories with concrete details—such as dates, places, and figures. General opinions are less effective than clear examples.
2) Keep it Specific
Questions like “How much funding has gone to [issue]?” or “What advice has the government received on [policy]?” are far more powerful than broad complaints. If you know a dollar figure or have experienced a direct impact, include it.
3) Stay Within Federal Matters
The Senate deals with national issues, not local council or state-level responsibilities. Please ensure your issue falls within federal jurisdiction.
4) Avoid Slogans or Rants
While your passion is important, submissions must be clear, respectful, and appropriate for formal parliamentary processes.
5) One Issue per Entry
If you have more than one question or story, please submit each one separately.
Examples of Strong Submissions
-
“I’ve worked in disability services in Rockhampton for 15 years. In the past 12 months, I’ve seen new providers charging the NDIS for services never delivered. It looks like there’s no federal oversight.”
-
“In Wagga Wagga, federally managed regional roads have gone without maintenance for years. Meanwhile, $500,000 in federal funding was reportedly spent on an art installation about a blue-banded bee. Are these really the priorities?”
-
“My son attends a public school in Logan. Last term, his class was taught material on gender identity with no notice to parents. I understand federal policy influences curriculum funding. Shouldn’t parents be informed?”
-
“I’ve applied for over 50 rentals in Launceston this year. I work full-time and have excellent references, but still can’t secure housing. What is the federal government doing to address the national housing shortage?”
-
“We run a small manufacturing business in Whyalla. Our power bills have doubled. Federal energy policy seems to be driving costs up without relief. What’s being done to support businesses like ours?”
You don’t need perfect wording—just tell us what’s happening, why it matters to you, and what you want our Senators to ask. Our team may edit submissions slightly to meet parliamentary standards before use.
