Kerry White for Grey

Kerry White has spent much of her life working to make her South Australian community a better place.

Born in Port Augusta, Kerry began her career as a nurse at Orroroo before running her own antique shop and plant nursery at Peterborough. For the past 25 years, her focus has been on indigenous and community health and family services in the Mid-North and Upper Spencer Gulf.

“I’ve always been passionate about helping the most vulnerable people in our community. Regional areas of South Australia continue to struggle for adequate health and family services but I’ve been fortunate to work with some wonderful people to help improve them.”

A respected Elder of the Narungga people like her mother, Kerry has undertaken a number of community roles including coordinator of the Port Pirie Aboriginal Community Centre and information systems manager and director on the Port Pirie Regional Health Committee. She’s also worked as a diabetes educator and as a case manager with Families SA. It’s given her considerable insight into the challenges facing people from low socio-economic backgrounds in regional South Australia.

“I’m intent on creating more jobs and improving housing availability and affordability for the most vulnerable people in our regional communities. Many people in the country are willing to work hard, but the opportunities for secure jobs and aspirational careers are not always there for them. Secure affordable housing or accommodation is always a problem and in recent years has only gotten worse.

“One of the most important reasons I’m standing for One Nation at this coming election is to help make housing more affordable for all Australians. We need to reduce immigration to lower housing demand and ban foreign ownership of residential properties to increase housing supply.

“One Nation is also focused on empowering indigenous Australians through education and employment. We want to ensure indigenous Australians to have support when and where it’s needed – something to which I’ve been dedicated for a long time – but not in a way that entrenches disadvantage as so many government policies currently do.

“What I’m offering – and what One Nation is offering – is an alternative choice to the tired and stifling political duopoly the major political parties hold over Australia. The past couple of years have been hard for everyone, and the ease with which governments have curtailed Australians’ rights and freedoms has really sharpened our awareness of the need to keep them accountable and ensure basic democratic principles like freedom of speech and individual rights are paramount and protected against authoritarian government overreach. One Nation will never stop fighting for the rights of South Australians.”
