Last night I had the opportunity to discuss One Nation's position on one of these freedoms; the freedom of religion. Freedom of religion is a fundamental democratic right that is just as important as freedom of speech. The creators of the Australian Constitution understood the importance of religious freedom. Section 116 says the Commonwealth shall not make any law prohibiting the free exercise of any religion. Most Australians identify as having some form of religious belief, yet many today do not feel safe expressing their beliefs in public. They don’t feel safe bringing the perspectives of their faith to national debates on any issue.
