PRESS RELEASE: Windfall tax a free license for Labor to print money
The Andrews government's proposed windfall gains tax is under criticism because it might have a detrimental effect on real estate investment and regional growth. Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell, an MLC for One Nation, contends that the tax gives the government unrestricted authority to generate money and will further deter real estate investment at a time when Victoria is grappling with a housing crisis. Before the tax goes into effect on July 1st, Mrs. Tyrrell is requesting a parliamentary investigation into it because she thinks that boosting supply, lowering demand, encouraging residential property investment, and cutting red tape are the best ways to address the housing issue. In order to enhance the availability of homes for Victorians, she also advises outlawing foreign ownership of residential property and cutting back on local government red tape.
