Leigh Burns, a dedicated and pragmatic advocate for the people of western Sydney, brings a common-sense approach to life and a strong commitment to addressing the pressing issues of her community. Having lived in the western suburbs for over 32 years, Leigh has witnessed the challenges brought about by high immigration, rapid housing developments, and inadequate infrastructure.

As a grassroots community member rather than a career politician, Leigh understands the struggles facing Chifley’s residents from a lived experience perspective. She has seen firsthand how poor planning has turned roads into parking lots, stretched medical centres to breaking point, and left schools unable to cope with surging student numbers.

“Estates go up, but the roads and infrastructure remain unchanged. In my area, we have a primary school that went from 80 kids to over 350 almost overnight, with traffic and demountables quickly becoming the norm. This is not sustainable,” Leigh says.

Leigh firmly supports One Nation’s sensible stance on immigration, advocating for a ceiling on migration to ease the burden on housing, roads, and essential services. She highlights the contradiction in planning decisions, such as the rejection of the North West Growth Sector for 12,000 new homes due to flood risk, only to approve a commercial development in the same flood-prone area, requiring 500 truckloads of fill dirt per day for three years.

Leigh’s vision for Chifley is one of long-term planning and sustainable growth that prioritises the needs of the local community. She is determined to tackle the housing crisis, improve road infrastructure, and ensure essential services can meet the demands of a growing population.
