Australia cannot be truly self-reliant if our farmers depend on imported fertiliser to grow the food that feeds the nation.

Recent global conflicts have exposed how fragile international supply chains can be. When fertiliser prices spike overseas, Australian farmers pay more, food production costs rise and families pay more at the checkout.

A nation as resource-rich as Australia should not have to depend on foreign suppliers for something so essential to food production.

True self-reliance begins with securing the inputs needed to grow our own food. Net-zero policies have made this problem worse by restricting affordable gas development and making domestic fertiliser production more difficult and expensive.

One Nation believes self-reliance starts with producing more of what we need here at home.

Australia should use its own gas resources to support domestic fertiliser manufacturing, strengthen local supply chains and reduce dependence on foreign imports.

A more self-reliant Australia means stronger farmers, stronger food production and greater protection from overseas shocks. If we want food security and cheaper groceries, we must first achieve fertiliser self-reliance.

Australia will achieve true fertiliser self-reliance when we end net-zero policies that are undermining production in this country.
