Beer o’clock for Roberts
Senator Malcolm Roberts has been on a 3000km Outback pub drive this week to promote One Nation's policies, dropping into the Longreach Tavern on Wednesday, 26 February, before heading off to Emerald the following day.
Senator Roberts said One Nation pledged to cut 26 cents per litre in fuel tax, remove the alcohol tax on drinks sold in licensed venues and reduce power bills by 20 per cent.
The One Nation senator wanted to visit outback towns, pubs and businesses where "excise and expenses were crippling communities”
"Only One Nation has policies that will put more money in Australians' pockets and support struggling small businesses,” he said.
"In many Outback towns, the pubs are in danger of becoming extinct, with the cost of overheads forcing them to shut their doors.
"One Nation's pub drive will shine a light on struggling towns that most politicians will never visit their entire time in parliament.”
Mr Roberts said the outback and the bush were often silent victims of government policies .
"More than most communities, the outback feels increases to the cost of transport yet politicians in Canberra often do not hear these voices crying out for acknowledgment of the pain Canberra is inflicting," he said.
" ' l Outback pubs are often the hub for the entire community, acting as much more than just a watering hole. One Nation wants to give venues a shot in the arm to keep their doors open as a place to see your mates."
Towns on the 3000km itinerary include Warwick, Goondiwind i, St George, Roma, Charleville, Quilpie, Stonehenge, Longreach, Emerald and Moura.
