Spence Candidate Announces Curtis Road Funding Commitment

PAULINE Hanson's One Nation's candidate for the seat of Spence Darryl Bothe has announced an election commitment of $150 million towards Curtis Road in Playford.

The promise will see the funding go towards fixing congestion and safety issues for the nutritious road.

One Nation's Lead Senate candidate for South Australia said the road's issues have been neglected by governments for too long.

“Major developments in the past 15 years have shifted a great deal more traffic onto Curtis Road and a solution is long overdue,” she said.

“The road needs to be completely duplicated and a number of intersections need upgrading to address traffic volumes of more than 24,000 vehicles per day."

Mr Bothe said an urban renewal project for Playford combined with construction of the Northern Expressway and Northern Interconnectors has significantly impacted Curtis Road.

“Developments in this area have resulted in a rapid population increase, but despite the fact it was known that Curtis Road would need upgrading to accommodate it, very little had been done except talking about it," he said.

“In the meantime, Playford Council and the South Australian Government continue to push for more housing developments that will only bring more traffic."

Mr Bothe said the commitment is aimed at "getting things moving" for Curtis Road.

“One Nation considers Curtis Road should be gazetted a state arterial road and made a priority for funding and upgrades, such as as die intersection with Heaslip Road,” he said.

“This is a rapidly growing part of South Australia with a lot of potential.

“It's important we get it right when planning to accommodate this growth."
