One Nation to Lift Tax-Free Threshold for Self-Funded Retirees

Self-funded retirees have spent their working lives paying taxes, building businesses, investing in property, and contributing to the economy—yet when it comes time for retirement, they’re still being slugged with tax. These retirees don’t rely on government support, they don’t receive a pension, and they aren’t a burden on the taxpayer. Instead, they’re using their own money to fund their retirement while also investing in Australian property and businesses that provide homes and jobs for others.

That’s why One Nation will increase the tax-free threshold to $35,000 for self-funded retirees over 67 who receive no government payments. It’s about fairness. These people have worked hard, done the right thing, and should be able to enjoy their retirement without the government dipping further into their pockets.

Rewarding Hard Work and Smart Planning

Australia should be encouraging people to save for their own retirement, not punishing them for doing so. The more people who can fund their own retirement, the less pressure there is on the aged pension and government spending. It’s common sense.

This change will mean more retirees can keep their savings working for them, rather than being forced to withdraw more than necessary just to pay tax. It also creates an incentive for younger generations to save and invest, knowing they won’t be unfairly taxed on their retirement income.

Labor’s Tax Grab on Retirees

This policy is part of One Nation’s broader commitment to protect Australians from Labor’s constant tax grabs. We fought against Bill Shorten’s 2019 plan to impose double taxation on retirees’ share dividends, and we will continue to oppose Albanese’s plan to increase tax on superannuation balances over $3 million.

Rather than punishing those who have worked hard and been financially responsible, Australia should be incentivising success and self-sufficiency.

One Nation’s Plan to Cut Taxes and Fix the Economy

This is just one of several policies One Nation is taking to the 2025 Federal Election to provide real cost-of-living relief. Others include:

  • Income splitting for families – allowing couples with children to file joint tax returns so parents who stay home to raise kids aren’t unfairly taxed.
  • Removing work limits for pensioners and veterans – allowing them to earn as much as they want without their pension being cut.
  • Lifting the tax-free threshold for self-funded retirees – so they can keep more of their money instead of handing it to the government.

These policies aren’t just about tax relief. They help address real economic issues, like skills shortages in education and healthcare, reducing the childcare burden on taxpayers, and stopping Labor’s high-immigration-driven housing crisis.

This is how you create a stronger, more self-sufficient Australia—not by taxing people into oblivion, but by rewarding those who work hard, plan ahead, and contribute to the country.

There’s more to come. One Nation will be releasing additional policies to cut wasteful spending, tackle government mismanagement, and bring down the cost of living. Because tax relief is only part of the solution—if we don’t stop reckless government spending, the cycle of rising taxes and inflation will never end.
