Firearms Ownership

“One Nation is a proud champion of Australia’s responsible firearm owners and industry and will defend the rights of law-abiding Australians to own, use and safely enjoy firearms as part of our nation’s way of life.”

One Nation stands with every licensed, law-abiding firearm owner in Australia.

Farmers managing their land, sporting shooters competing at club level, recreational hunters and small business owners are responsible, heavily regulated citizens who make a genuine contribution to this country.

They deserve fair, practical laws and a government that treats them with respect.

One Nation opposes firearm reclassification, ownership caps, and government funded buyback schemes imposed by federal and state governments.

One Nation will repeal rushed, unfair gun laws that were pushed through after the Bondi massacre and other incidents, and which punish compliant shooters instead of fixing security and policing failures.

We will shift the focus back onto criminals by targeting gun-running, gangs and violent offenders, not piling more red tape and costs on licensed farmers, club members and businesses.

We will tighten our borders and crack down on the illegal firearms market, making it harder for criminals to get guns while keeping a strong, workable licensing system for responsible owners.

One Nation will enforce the tough laws that already exist and stop targeting licensed, law-abiding firearm owners.

Supports:

One Nation will support sporting shooters, clubs, firearms businesses, farmers, landholders and recreational hunters through an evidence-based, practical regulatory approach that:

  • Protects licensed individuals, landholders, hunters and businesses who comply with all safety, training and licensing requirements.
  • Promotes shooting sports and responsible hunting as legitimate, positive recreational and competitive pursuits with social, economic and community benefits.
  • Encourages youth participation, community events and sporting excellence under Australia’s existing strict regulatory systems.
  • Requires meaningful consultation with sporting bodies, clubs, farmers and industry before legislative or regulatory changes to firearms laws.
  • Ensures access to club facilities, competition pathways and hunting opportunities so licensed Australians can maintain participation, skills and safe firearm handling.
  • Recognises lawful firearms use for pest management as an essential agricultural activity and supports licensed individuals assisting landholders in pest control programs.
  • Encourages rural economic activity through pest management, land stewardship and the lawful, regulated use of firearms.
  • Supports legitimate donations of game meat to food banks and charities through approved pathways, turning pest management and recreational hunting into a sustainable food resource
  • Focuses enforcement on criminal misuse, illegal trafficking and organised crime, rather than placing unnecessary burdens on compliant rural and regional Australians.

Australia’s lawful firearms sector underpins food security, environmental management, community sport and local jobs. Farmers and landholders rely on firearms as essential tools for pest control, livestock protection and property management, allowing them to meet legal obligations and keep producing food for the nation.

Sporting shooters and clubs operate under some of the strictest licensing and safety standards in the world yet still deliver more than $2.5 billion to the economy each year, support over 3,300 jobs and involve more than 640,000 participants nationwide, many in regional towns where clubs are key social and economic hubs.

Responsible recreational hunters and pest controllers help manage feral pests and animal populations that cause serious damage to food production, infrastructure, native flora and fauna, and biosecurity. They can also provide high-quality game meat that supports food security and reduces waste when managed through approved channels.

Across these sectors, licensed owners already comply with rigorous background checks, storage rules and ongoing regulation; additional blanket restrictions fall hardest on these compliant Australians while leaving hundreds of thousands of firearms circulating in the illicit market.

One Nation supports this industry because it feeds the country, protects the environment, sustains community sport and employment, and strengthens regional Australia, all while operating within a strict safety framework that should be enforced against criminals, not weaponised against those who follow the law.
