Questions Raised Over Flydubai Co-Pilot’s Time in Australia

“The flydubai co-pilot accused of trying to hijack an aircraft bound for Israel told social media followers his time in Australia was amongst the ‘golden years’ of his religious devotion.”
This relates to the three years that Hammam al-Hammami spent in Melbourne on a student visa. The matter is currently being investigated by the Victoria Joint Counter Terrorism Team. Clearly, there is a lot that still needs to be revealed, and we wouldn’t want to prejudice any investigations, but there is so much about the revelations in the SMH that is worrying.

Of course, by referring to the “golden years” of “religious devotion”, he most likely means his “radicalisation”. If it is the case that this alleged terrorist was most radicalised in Melbourne, then there are serious lessons that need to be learnt and questions that need to be answered.
