New Candidate for Barker

A seasoned paramedic and business owner has made the decision to take a step into the political arena.

Cody Scholes has announced he will run against Member for Barker Tony Pasin and other candidates during this year's federal election.

Mr Scholes will be the official endorsed candidate for the seat of Barker for Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party.

After working as a paramedic for seven years and owning his own pressure washing business for about three years, Mr Scholes said it was time for him to step up for what he believed the people needed.

«» We need a representative to stand up for our electorate in the federal parliament whose only interest is to advance our interests," Mr Scholes said.

«• For years we have seen the neglect of this electorate in terms of roads, in terms of health, in terms of housing and infrastructure and farming."

He said he believed every election cycle the same issues were being brought to the attention of the public with the two main parties - Labor and Liberal - constantly promising to "fix" the ongoing issues which had been "neglected”

"They do not fix them and then come the next election it is the opposition that gets in and say they are going to fix it because the last government didn't," Mr Scholes said.

«■ I am very focused on the interests of the entire electorate and if you look at Mount Gambier, we are the second biggest city in the state.

We have also got a major rural infrastructure such as farming and plantation and agriculture as well with the wineries."

He said the Barker electorate would have to be attractive for investors to come and invest in the state as well as industry to set up their farms, establish wineries and plantations.

"It is about attracting businesses which are going to grow infrastructure and it is going to benefit the entire community because with more infrastructure we are going to have better access to health, we are going to have better access to roads and we are going to have a better quality of life."

He said he wanted to ensure the electorate of Barker was a place where people wanted to come not just with their families but with their businesses as well.

“I want people to be able to look at Barker and say that is somewhere I want to invest," Mr Scholes said.

"We need to make Barker not just more liveable but more attractive, to attract people who are going to help grow this electorate so we have a much better standard of healthcare, so that people who live in Barker do not have to travel to Adelaide or Melbourne for healthcare.”

He said infrastructure on roads such as guardrails was also a priority to protect cars from hitting one another.

"I also want to make sure in this electorate that our people have got reliable and cheap power," Mr Scholes said.

"We want to focus on the cost of living by making sure there are policies in place to enhance our quality of life.

"We need to cut unnecessary spending on regulation which we know does not lead to any outcomes."

The date for the federal election is yet to be announced.
