Anger At MP Staff Pay Offer
James Ashby, chief-of-staff to Pauline Hanson, has condemned the Albanese government's plan to increase parliamentary staff pay by 11.2% over three years, describing it as a "kick in the guts" to taxpayers. He argues that the pay rise, averaging 3.75% annually, is excessive compared to the modest increases given to pensioners and Job-Seeker recipients. Ashby highlighted that parliamentary staff already enjoy high salaries and numerous benefits, accusing the government of ignoring inflation warnings and being out of touch with the public. Staff will vote on the proposal from August 12-19, while the government has refused to comment. Opposition finance spokeswoman Jane Hume supports the pay rise, citing the hard work of political staff.
