Keep Our Coast Safe — Say No to Offshore Wind

Australians are being left in the dark while massive offshore wind projects are being pushed into our waters without scrutiny or accountability.

These are not harmless energy projects. They are a reckless imposition on our coast, with serious unanswered risks to our national security, defence capability, emergency response systems, and the safety of our skies and seas.
 
No one has properly explained how hundreds of offshore turbines will affect radar, aviation, maritime operations, emergency responses, or Australia’s ability to protect its borders and defend its interests. Yet the approvals keep moving, the surveys keep expanding, and the government keeps pretending these questions do not matter.
 
That is not good enough, and Australians have every right to say no.

We, the undersigned, call on the Senate to halt the progress of all offshore wind turbine projects, including feasibility licenses, site investigation and survey mapping, and all development approvals until an inquiry is conducted to determine the impact of radar interference, offshore wind turbine exclusion zones and emergency service responses in order to protect Australia’s National security.
We ask that the Senate refer this matter to the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee for inquiry and report.
We ask the Committee to examine the security and operational risks that offshore wind developments pose to Australia’s defence, emergency services, maritime safety, and sovereignty.
 
We further ask that, until that inquiry is completed, the Senate call on the Government to place an immediate moratorium on offshore wind development.

That the following matter be referred to the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee for inquiry and report:
The potential impacts of offshore wind turbine developments on Australia’s national security, defence capability, and emergency response systems, with particular reference to:
(a) the potential for offshore wind developments to interfere with defence surveillance and radar capability, including impacts on maritime, aviation, communications, and early warning systems;
(b) the implications for Australia’s national security interests, including border protection, maritime domain awareness, and operational requirements associated with AUKUS;
(c) the impact on emergency service operations and response capability, including the ability of land-based, aerial, and maritime emergency services to safely and effectively respond to incidents within or proximate to offshore wind developmentareas;
(d) the establishment of offshore wind turbine exclusion zones and their implications for maritime access, navigational safety, emergency response, and national resilience;
(e) the adequacy of existing regulatory, communications, and safety frameworks overseen by relevant Commonwealth and State agencies, including but not limited to the Department of Defence, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the Department of Home Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), and the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA); and
(f) any other related matters.
