Rebecca Hewett - Pauline Hanson's One Nation

I'm Rebecca Hewett, my husband and I are seventh-generation primary producers from Bute, now farming and living in Meadows. We have three grown sons, and I'm an elected member of Mount Barker Council. I'm standing as a candidate for One Nation because Mayo has not had strong representation in Canberra for decades. It appears the major parties have written Mayo off, while I'm concerned that the incumbent MP sits useless and powerless because she's on the cross bench.

I'm very concerned that the current MP would be beholden to her Climate200 donor and supporting positions not in Mayo's best interest.

What do you believe are the key needs in Mayo?

Stop development until we can catch up on critical infrastructure.

Traffic is just going to get worse, and it needs to be fixed. The Hahndorf bypass also needs to be done.

If elected, what are the key things you would seek to achieve over the next three years, and how would you achieve them?

We will ban foreign ownership and protect our prime farmland from any further development, particularly wind and solar factories, which are an environmental disaster.

We need to protect farmers' right to farm and support them through this drought. We will reduce immigration and get us out of net zero with its crippling compliance costs. Cost of living measures will include income splitting so families can lodge a joint tax return, halving fuel excise, removing all tax from alcohol served in venues, removing GST from new home builds, increasing bulk billing rates in Medicare, and reducing electricity by 20% by removing the subsidies on your bill.

Pensioners/veterans can work unlimited hours and keep all their pension.

Lifting the tax-free threshold to $35,000 for self-funded retirees.

We have a plan that will slash $90 billion per year in government waste and duplication. This will allow us to put money back into your pocket, pay down our debt, and reinvest in Australia's future.
