Albanese Calls Super a ‘National Asset’ — But It’s Your Money
Anthony Albanese has told a room full of fund managers and bank CEOs that Australia’s $4.5 trillion in retirement savings has “real potential” to be treated as a “national asset.”
Let’s be clear about whose asset it actually is.
That money came out of YOUR pay packet. Every fortnight. For your whole working life. You went without so there’d be something left at the end of it.
It is not a slush fund for whatever the government of the day decides is a national priority. It is not there to bankroll Labor’s pet projects.
The second politicians start steering where your retirement savings go, the question stops being “what delivers the best return for the member” and becomes “what delivers the best headline for the Prime Minister.” And when those investments go bad, it won’t be Albo’s retirement that takes the hit. It’ll be yours.
One Nation’s position is simple. Your super has one job: your retirement. Not the nation’s balance sheet. Not Canberra’s wish list. Yours.
